About The Ninth Portal

The Mystery

Humanity discovered eight portals—stable gateways that allowed travel to distant regions of the galaxy before returning safely to Sol-space.

Decades later, they found a ninth portal. They tested it like they did all the others, but for some reason, they never received any returns from the droids they sent in.

Eventually, people became so fascinated by the mystery that they wanted to take ships into the portal to explore, knowing it was probably a one-way trip—or a suicide run.

Your Journey Begins

You are one of those curious people. For some reason only you know about, you spent a lot of money for a ship to join the others in a pilgrimage into the unknown.

The Ninth Portal is a game unlike most others. Before you volunteer for the journey, there is one thing you should know…

A Different Kind of Game

This is a turn-based game. You enter your turn as captain of your ship, as do all the other captains, and in 24-hour increments, the turns are processed. The benefit is that all players are equal. Nobody can spend hours a day getting ahead of everyone else.

Plan an attack. Coordinate with your allies. Give your fleet time to gather at a rendezvous before the battle begins. Strategies are easier to implement when you have time.

And you can spend more time in the real world doing more important things with family and friends.

There will still be a lot of things to do in-game other than plan your ship moves. You can log in any time and adjust things, check out your various ship systems, review previous turns, calculate travel, check cargo space, monitor energy use, and make sure you have enough fuel and rations to reach your destination. Do this as long as you want before the turns process. Watch your own history unfold over time.

While it’s true that The Ninth Portal is not an action-packed shoot ’em up type game, it is a game of strategy, intrigue, piracy, diplomacy, exploration, trade, combat, and basically whatever you want it to be.

You see, The Ninth Portal does not sequentially railroad you down created paths on unchanging quests that everyone has to do. It is a simulated universe where the moment you enter, you become part of the simulation and are in control of your ship and your destination.

You’re not controlling a little avatar! You’re commanding a starship! YOU give the orders. YOU command your ship. YOU decide who to trust or who to attack. YOU choose what type of game YOU want to play. We merely provide the sandbox in which you can make your plan a reality.

What Kind of Captain Will You Become?

Every captain leaves a different mark on history.

  • Become a legendary trader.
  • Build an empire that spans the stars.
  • Create a pirate cartel.
  • Establish a mining consortium.
  • Found the first colony on an unexplored world.
  • Protect new explorers from the dangers of space.
  • Become the captain everyone fears...

Gather friends and create groups, guilds, organizations, bases, or whatever you'd like. Control a part of space, a planet, or a drifting outpost. Expand into regions already claimed by others and deal with the consequences.

Your crew has joined you because they wish to see what’s on the other side of The Ninth Portal.

History Remembers

As you enter the simulation, you immediately become part of its history!

What does that mean?

Your ship, your discoveries, your battles, your settlements—everything you do becomes an integral part of the simulation. Years after you are gone, people may sing your praises or talk about you in seedy space station message boards. Your reputation might just become a legend within the simulation.

The universe is not scripted.

It doesn't decide your destiny.

It merely reacts to the choices you make.

There Is No Manual

Like life…

There is no instruction manual.

There are no glowing arrows pointing toward hidden treasures.

Captains discover things because they explore, experiment, and share information...

...or sometimes keep it to themselves.

If you’re looking for a game that tells you exactly where you need to go next…

This may not be the one for you.

Beyond the Ninth Portal lies an unknown universe.

What happens next...

...is up to you.

Welcome aboard.
